Attack On Titan
|
(COOL NARRATOR VOICE ACTIVATE!!!!) In a world, where humans are no longer the hunters, but the hunted.... Heroes will be born..... Three childhood friends rise up to will save them all!!!
Well...... not quite... all... Attack on Titan revolves around main characters, Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert, as they struggle to survive in an apocalyptic world where humans are on the brink of extinction. 100 years prior to the story, creatures called Titans suddenly appeared and nearly wiped out the Human race. Leaving all other wildlife alone, they devoured humans by the thousands. The last of humanity, realizing that they couldn't win the war, settled in a country surrounded by three walls: the outer wall, "Wall Maria"; the middle wall, "Wall Rose"; and the inner wall, "Wall Sheena." These three walls are designed to keep all Titans out, and mark the only territory humans have left. Inside these walls, humanity has lived in peace for one-hundred years, and many people have grown up without ever seeing a Titan. However, everything changes one day when a giant 60-meter Titan mysteriously appears and breaches the outermost wall, "Wall Maria." This event lets countless Titans into the outer wall and starts a war that will determine the fate of the human race. For the first time in 100 years, it's time for the human race to fight back! Attack on Titan makes you fall in love with the characters, each with his/her own personality quirks and problems, The characters seem extremely human. They panic, cry, laugh -- everything about them convinces the viewer that they really are just poor souls fighting in an endless war. This makes you relate to the characters and even cry for some of them when they die. The apocalyptic world seems shockingly real. Death is terrifying, and humans are an endangered species. If there is one thing I've learned it's that you can't have a good anime without good music, and this anime definitely hits the spot. Its music is very dramatic, and helps set the scene. I'd find my heart pounding with excitement when the music was heroic, scared when it was dramatic. I was absorbed by it. The music really makes you feel like you're watching something epic, which you are. My favorite of the songs, the first Attack on Titan opening song, is so catchy it's infectious. From animation, to plot, characters, and music, this anime passes with flying colors. I found myself gobbling up every episode until the very end. This anime is action packed, horror filled, and made me fall in love with it from the first episode. I found myself pondering on the more philosophical parts of the anime, which is something I always look for in a good show. Being the first anime I ever watched, it set an example for me, and what to expect. If your new to anime, or are just looking for a good action anime, this show defiantly will please you. Death Note.
|
Everyone has at some point dreamed of wielding great power, fighting bad guys, and becoming someone important. The problem with power is, like a wild fire, it can easily burn out of control. If it falls into the wrong hands, lives can be ruined and the world can be destroyed. With great power comes great responsibility. Power corrupts, controls, and perverts even the most innocent of people. The more encompassing the power, the faster the corruption. With that said, what happens when someone obtains the most powerful power of them all, the unlimited control over life and death? That is exactly what happens to Light Yagami.
I absolutely loved Death Note. It dragged me into its world of corruption as we follow main protagonist Light Yagami in his game of wits. Light Yagami is an 17-18 year old boy who just happened to be in the right place at the wrong time. He is extremely clever and is a young genius. Light is extremely displeased with he Japanese justice system, often describing the world as rotten. One fateful day as he is walking home from school, a small notebook falls from the sky. Light Yagami, being the curious person he is, picks up the book and takes it for his own. The black notebook has bold white letters reading "Death Note" on it's cover, and a set of instructions on its front page. Light at first thinks the book is a prank. I mean, who wouldn't? So, he decides to test it out. He turns on his TV to a Japanese news channel and searches for someone to test. He finds a middle-aged man who is holding hostages at a kindergarten. 40 seconds after Light writes his name in the notebook, we see the hostages flooding out of the building, unharmed. As the hostages describe, the man simply dropped dead. It is revealed that the man died from a heart attack, and the chaos starts from there. Death Note entices you into its world, and you'll find yourself caught up in its battles. This is an anime which will surprise you at every turn. For the first half of the series, we watch as Light's alter ego Kira and genius detective L battle each other through well placed attacks of wits. Since Kira needs to know both the name and physical identity of his victims in order for the death note to be effective, he can't kill L, and the two become mortal enemies. Both L and Light are incredibly smart, and it's amazing to see each of their well thought out plans as the chaos becomes more complex. You're astounded by both L and Kira's schemes: Kira trying to find L's name, L trying to get Kira to expose himself. Both of them are opposite sides of a coin. Light want's to become the god of a new world where no one will commit crimes because of fear of death. On the other hand, L wants to stop Kira's corruption and serial killing. You see how desperate Kira becomes to become a god. You see he is even willing to kill members of him family to do so. Both of L and Kira use similar methods to get what they want, and deception and trickery mixed with complex planning is something you see in almost every episode of this series. You spend the entire show thinking about whom you should root for as the mystery unfolds. The animation for Death Note is good. I love how they depict the two main heroes. Kira/Light Yagami is often depicted as a fallen angel,a beautiful yet unintentional fiend, while L is depicted as an unconventional angel. L looks weird, acts weird, in fact, everything about him is weird. When you think of good and just characters, you imagine them with flowing hair, blue eyes, broad muscular bodies, riding up to you on a white horse......Well.... maybe not that exaggerated. However, L is pretty much the opposite of that, yet he is the character fighting for good and justice. On the other hand, Light Yagami acts normally and looks above average. He's what you'd imagine the good guy to be. Nevertheless, Light Yagami deceives people with his looks and kind facade. This shows that evil takes many shapes and forms. Even if people look kind, they might stab you in the back later. Kira/Light Yagami often feeds his Shinigami (Death God) Ryuk an apple. They say that this is because the fruit in the Shinigami realm is dry as sang. However, this can be seen as symbolic of him being a corrupting influence promoting the forbidden fruit. The music for this show was well done. It fit well with what was happening in the story, and helped me get more engaged in it. At times it made my flesh crawl, and other times it provoked thought. The music for the mystery scenes sounded calculated and mysterious while the music for the action/killing scenes sounded more chaotic. Most of the music uses synthesizers, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar. The animation, music, characters, and plot were amazing. However I felt like they lost their way the second half of the show. 7/10 |
